Recently I’ve purchased an APC Network Management Card AP9631 at eBay. After installing it on my APC UPS, I couldn’t get it to get an IP, possibly because it was configured with a static IP. As I didn’t have a serial cable for it, I had to reset it. Here is how.
- Turn on your APC UPS
- Make sure your NMC has some LEDs on, which means it is at least alive
- Stick a paper clip into the reset button, and hold it for at least 30s or until the status LED goes from green to amber
- Release the reset button and click press it again
- During the boot process, it will blink green/amber quickly
Once the boot is finished, it should blink green and amber slowly. This means the NMC is sending DHCP requests. Go to your router and check the DHCP lease status. On your pfSense, go to Status >> DHCP Leases and look for an entry starting with “AP” or “APC”. That is it!
